This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Here's a dare for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Sit down with your significant other and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like standard biological terror, but inside Together exists a deep contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story begins when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the country for her career. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists tumble into an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting either of his characters the clear bad guy.

The couple grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of excessive reliance and fully committing to another person, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.
